Commie Crybaby Cinema
3.6 Stars
Oppenheimer is a film that's made for IMAX. Christopher Nolan's effort to make special effects that represent possible imaginings that Robert Oppenheimer may have visualized throughout his schooling/working theorizing the atomic world and nuclear Explosions, accompanied by a dramatic string orchestral musical score for the effect of adding tension and gravity to many frankly static and mundane scenes throughout the 3 hour long runtime. The Scenes jump from time period to time period; before the war, during the war, after the war, in an attempt to keep certain contexts concealed and translate the dryer content from the source biography American Prometheus into a cinematic experience.
I definitely have a bias against Nolan films, I pretty much always find them to long and over dramatic and for me Oppenheimer is no exception. If you can see it in theaters for the IMAX experience, but be ready to sit through a slog of dumb sex scenes, commie parties/ meetings, static line readings from a single actor in frame, and an overall unsatisfying feeling when it all wraps up.Jul 21st 2023
