Shows the importance of perseverance and family loyalty. Also demonstrates men being respectful of/receptive to women's ideas in a time when that wasn't the norm.

Role model
4/5

Joe, his wife, and his brother are all smart, persistent, loyal, brave. Joe's concern for physical fitness for everyone is played as wholly sincere. Joe and his brother fight anti-Semitism. They also break a color barrier with their selection of cover models for their magazine. Joe is respectful of/receptive to his wife's good ideas.

Violence
2/5

Violence isn't graphic, though results are sometimes shown. A child is viciously spanked with a belt. Anti-Semitic bullies beat up a kid, take his money. A strong man dislocates another's shoulder via sneak attack; the same strong man brutally beats someone else just below camera view. Standing up to an anti-Semitic/homophobic rant, a main character gets beaten up, his face stepped on in public.

Sex
2/5

A post-sex scene between adults is shown, as is start of another encounter. A woman's sexual prowess is described to her in humorously technical detail.

Language
2/5

Infrequent use of anatomical words ("penis," "vagina"). Frequent bigoted taunts targeting Jewish, black, and gay people (presented in a negative light).

Drugs
1/5

Drinking and smoking are occasionally shown but frowned upon (the main character is preoccupied with healthy living).
