Message | Despite its crude humor, the movie's messages are actually moving and worthwhile -- about the importance of ethics, the nature and challenge of success, and the way that we often turn pain into laughter even though it doesn't complelety eliminate the underlying problem. This isn't a movie about people making jokes -- it's about people making art. |
Role model | |
Violence | One scene of inept (though enthusiastic) scuffling between two people who clearly don't know how to fight. It's played for comedic effect, but some of the slapping gets pretty serious. |
Sex | Sex scenes involving nude breasts and blunt talk; love scenes; extensive discussion of sex, infidelity, and more. Lots of penis jokes. |
Language | Constant strong language, including (but not limited to ) "f--k," "motherf--ker," "s--t," "balls," "prick," "dick," "c--k," "bitch," "titty," "p---y," "goddamn," "oh my God," and much more. One use of the "N" word, as a descriptive term rather than a racial epithet. |
Consumerism | |
Drugs | Characters drink beer, wine, and hard liquor and, in one scene, smoke marijuana. Stand-up performances take place in bars. |

Faith | None |
Sex | Sex between an unmarried couple; very frank and explicit sexual talk and innuendos throughout the entire film. |
Language | I gave up counting all the profanity after awhile. They fly rapidly from the character's mouths and include a ton of words including the F word over 130 times and biblical profanities such as JC and GD; many explicit sexual terms used and slang of about every kind for male and female genitalia and for breasts. Slang is used for lovemaking. |
Violence | Joke about a comedian and how he is probably committing suicide right now and about the people joining him and drinking kool-aid; a few fist fights with one man being bloodied a bit. |
Drugs | A lot of drinking scenes and a scene in which a man smokes marijuana from a pipe. |
Nudity | Woman's breasts are seen; cleavage; shirtless men; women in swim wear. |
Other | A disrespectful attitude toward the sacredness of marriage but there is a change in one character; disagreements between friends who live together; a man deals with leukemia and the possible consequences of it; an extraordinary amount of time is spent on the topic of sex; a comment about a man's father who didn't believe in God because of the holocaust. |
