Amazing animation

A product of MTV's short artistic period, this animation series is one of the best ever produced and takes full advantage of what a cartoon can and should be. The story is mostly a mental trip, we follow MAXX a homeless man who thinks he's a superhero, Julie a former-liberal social worker, Mr. Gone a manipulative serial-rapist and Sarah an insolated young girl, through the world of the city, as well as the world of the subconscious. The story is cryptic and it's a good idea to look up the comics to understand it better, but thats doesnt really make the show unwatchable, the characters are interesting, the animation is really beautiful, there is humor, a few references, the entire animation oozes atmosphere, without it being cliched in any sense, the whole impression on me is that this animation series is still really fresh and innovative. The many themes we follow are mostly the feminine, woman are depicted not really as strong, but as vulnerable which is appreciated, we see themes like rape and social isolation coming along, crime, vagrancy and of course the human subconscious and imagination. This animation/comic is certainly a classic! The only negative I have is perhaps that it deserves a slightly better soundtrack.
