Inherently rightwing because it is pro faith. And they don't subvert the priest archetype or anything lame like that. Also it's like "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" in how it makes hippie cultists bad guys. And they had some anti-scientism™ themes with satisfying dialogue like this: "You know that being a doctor doesn't make you an expert on everything, right?" The film was made in 2014 and based in the 60's so the cast is attractive and there's no revisionist history affirmative action crap. The negative aspects? It's "based on a true story" so I'm sure only a few things actually happened. And most of the scares were run of the mill scary movie stuff. However, I must give props to them because there were a few times I was faked out thinking I could predict it. Like the Black bookstore owner seeming evil but actually being good. Or the picture the priest took at the beginning not having a ghost in it later on. These red herrings kept things interesting throughout.
