Very unique show and I really hope it sets the trend for more like it. Itโs been done before by some tech millionaire during the y2k dotcom bubble when all of this tech was just being explored. Thereโs a great documentary about it called โWe Live In Publicโ I highly recommend. Things got out of control with rape and assault and drugs and toilet cameras. Dude lost his mind โStanford Prison Experimentโ style. Donโt think Samโs show will go that far but I certainly hope so:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Live_in_Public Also I just found out about a Japanese game show that had the same audience interaction and schadenfreude torture that FishTank does. (Which isnโt surprising given Japanโs reputation.) The show was called โA Life of Prizesโ and the most famous contestant was โNasubi.โ Look it up or watch this youtube video on 2x speed for a quick run down: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasubi Seems interesting.ย Anyways, Samโs show has had some technical difficulties and they are slowly adding the audience interaction features like paying to take away their beds, messing with the house temperature and lighting, etc. I suspect things will only continue to get crazier and more entertaining. Way better than the fake reality tv shows like Jersey Shore.ย However, I feel bad laughing at freaks like the compulsive liar with a speech impediment (John). But almost all comedy has to have a recipient of our laughter. Whether self-deprecating or lampooning someone else. Itโs just weird when itโs not fictional satire or some monologue roast. Shows like this will get low IQ freaks for us to gawk at as they fumble around on camera. Tim & Eric, and MDE do this in a unique sketch comedy way. TLC or normal reality TV will pretend to be sympathetic as they make a documentary about an 800 lb American or an amputee midget and focus on their struggles. But the truth is that both creators are doing modern day freak show content. And both audiences enjoy staring at dumpster fires for fun. The main difference is Sam is transparent about his intentions and doesn't have the facade of dramatic sad music in the background. And Iโd even argue that the typical audience member of Jersey Shore or TLC shows watch because it makes them feel better about their own sh*tty lives. Whereas, FishTank viewers just enjoy chaos.ย Seems like everyone is enjoying it, even the contestants. They know what they signed up for. Give it a watch if you want a break from formulaic Hollywood crap.
