this is like a sophisticated version of the original Phantasm. there's a young boy's confusion about death, the adult world of sexuality, the menace of dangerous strangers, and abandonment by role models again like a lot of other classic films, in my opinion. through the lens of the unreliable memory (narrator almost) of childhood. an American gothic or mid-west gothic cult classic tragically unspoken of mostly underappreciated gem.
