I have a soft spot for Louie. I'm well aware of all the King Cuck memes and his recent subversive instincts coming out on Joe Rogan. His style is very derivative of Woody Allen and the NY awkward loser cliche. But I still love his work and his sense of humor. Even his weird experimentation with drama like "Horace & Pete." (Although I never finished that series.)

His earlier HBO series was too sitcomy so when he could get artsy with FX he really shined. Even if he goes overboard sometimes like in the later seasons or in this movie. Just don't expect comedy. Very dry humor and mainly drama in this one. The acting wasn't that great either but that's okay. It was very refreshing and there were some red herrings so it wasn't predictable. He doesn't cheat with that half Black chick that he had chemistry with. The whole thing just felt real and relatable.

Robert Kelly, (the fat guy, his brother in "Louie"), got sober in AA and has some good stories. Because of that, they depicted aspects of AA you never see in movies. Like the "speaking in bumper stickers" joke. Or how the green color filter and music portrayed the pressure of being around stressful situations. You never once get the group therapy scene that's in every show that tries to tackle addiction.

Not the main point of the movie and still enjoyable even if you don't know anyone in AA. It's mainly about the love hate relationship many people have with their family.
