Ok so, leaving aside race and politics (I knew going in this movie was made as explicit Third Worldist anti-Western propaganda): the acting wasn't good, the story doesn't make sense, not the premise, not the backstory, not anything that happens in the plot, not the 'twist' (which I already knew). The characters just say stuff and do stuff for seemingly no damn good reason. Why did the White doppelgangers kill their counterparts straight away and the blacks not? Why is all the interracial violence directed against White people? (well at least that's true to real life ) What reason is there except that Jordan Peele just openly hates White people? If you think about it, what you have on screen in the middle of the movie is a group of blacks invading the home of and slaughtering a family of White people (to the genocidal racist rap of MC Ren, no less) and then occupying their home (while the bodies of their White supposed friends lie cooling on the floor, unmourned). The pacing was so off, as a horror movie the film just wasn't scary. At no point was there any true tension or sense of danger for our black "protagonists". So I was vindicated to find that, yup, our enemies' art is just objectively terrible even on an æsthetic level.
