Shock Treatment,  not to be confused with the terrible 80's musical, is a decent attempt at an insane asylum mystery, the cast is good, most notably Roddy McDowall as Martin Ashley is perfectly believable, I think it's the eyes, anyway he doesn't overplay it, which is always important. The cast is far to mixed, certainly for the time period, what I mean by this is that there are actually more black characters as staff then as mental patients, which is ridiculous. It's primarily a mystery/drama, so we don't see some dark insane asylum in the woods, with complete lunatics as patients. One notably funny thought I had, in the end, the doctor played by Lauren Bacall, goes insane herself, is she, or did she just decide to put on a charade to dodge the criminal system?
