Yes, I am surprised nobody has reviewed this film yet, because it should be right up many people's alleys, but perhaps it's popularity has caused this action-flick to be ignored. 300 is in my opinion a fairly important influence on White conscious for many reasons, the first and main reason is that its a luscious, big-budget action flick, over-the-top, melodramatic and historically inaccurate, but completely mainstream. The second are two important plot themes, one rarely finds in modern films: The first is that this film is consciously and explicitly Eurocentric, to a large degree and without any exceptions, the Spartans and their Greek allies are all White, the Persians are basically a pastiche of dozens of races and are degenerate and perverse. It's weird watching this film, how completely alien this is to modern cinema. Now, naturally this isn't historically accurate in any sense of the word, Xerxes, who might have been a full-blooded Iranian redhead, or not, would most likely be Whiter then the Dorian Spartans, I am also sure he didn't have entire armies of Negroes, samurai warriors and Indians at his disposal, but it's fantastical flick and the approach is much appreciated. The second point, is more subtle, it's a common theme in horror films, but here is presented as something more important, that's the horrors of physical decay and imperfection, very Greek, since the Greeks had many ritual ceremonies where they killed ugly people, several times throughout the films, we see players and combatants not just as human, but as physically deformed. The mystics are deformed, we get a traitor who is a hunchback, Xerxes sends mutants to fight the Spartans and the contrast between them and the beautiful, physically trained Spartan soldiers is like night and day, Gerard Butler who portrays Leonidas has a strong and commanding presence, you believe he is a king. The action scenes are glorious and command respect, I am not a fan of action films in general, but when we get a good (though again over-the-top) depiction of murder and mayhem I am all for it. The style or cinematography is interesting, I am not a big fan of it, since it feels more like a video-game then a big-budget action film, but the choice was bold and will appeal to some people. Negatives are small, there is a slight feminist undercurrent running through this film, nothing special, but it's in the context of a masculine society, what I did find unpleasant is the anti-religious sentiment of this film, yes, the religion of the Greeks could have been treated with more respect. On a side note, how does this compare to another fantastical fan-favorite, namely LOTR? Well in my opinion, more favorable, I prefer the darker, grittier and more manly approach, but more important this film is explicitly pro-white, you can't read any other subtext into it, White man goes out to beat multiculturalism, for that reason this film will always stay inside of the pantheon of pro-White films. For fun and giggles:
