Named after the 13th amendment, this award-winning documentary from director Ava DuVernay (Selma) takes a hard look at the progress (or lack thereof) of the United States since the abolishment of slavery in 1865. Through interviews, statistics and montages, DuVernay thoroughly explores how, despite the amendment, slavery has been sustained through a series of institutionalized racist policies that result in mass incarceration of Black people and all people of color.
