If you like your rom-com a little dark with an S&M chaser, screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train) has just the thing, based on the short story of the same name by Mary Gaitskill. Meek and mild Lee Holloway (Maggie Gyllenhaal - The Kindergarten Teacher) lives with her parents and has a history of emotional issues. When Lee gets a job as the secretary for the demanding attorney E. Edward Grey (James Spader - Sex, Lies, and Videotape), she finds herself attracted to Grey’s strict attitude, and as the two begin a sadomasochistic relationship, Lee begins to find herself.
