I like period pieces, so of course I would like this movie. Based on a William Thackeray novel and set in the 18th century, this movie is about the social and economic rise and fall of a roguish Irishman (O’Neil). He ends up serving in several different European armies, becomes a gambler and con-man, and later marries a rich Englishwoman, but his good fortune doesn’t last. Written and directed by a Jew (Kubrick). Great cinematography and overall aesthetics.
